Wool

I meet with my boss every Friday morning and we often talk about wool sweaters: finding them second-hand, deciding if we can wear as is or use for a project, felting, and combining into new “Franken-sweaters” (her term). We talk about wool at least half as much as we talk about project management! Her latest idea is to make a Nordic sari. I think this may be the inspiration.

Jim and I in our alpaca finest

I have several wool sweaters that I love, some that I purchased on Poshmark and others from thrift stores. I have a very long cashmere cardigan, almost a robe, from Kathy that belonged to her mother-in-law and that I don’t wear often enough. I received a beautiful alpaca wool hat and glove set from Toni in 2023 and have recently fallen in love with Pacas socks which Jim, Simon and I are wearing every day this winter.

I even did my own felting and resewing project (above) back in 2011 using this pattern. I would love to get back into some wool projects. I am going to a clothing swap at Aster Gardens this weekend, which will prompt me to go through my clothes again and maybe find some wool items that could be improved or repurposed. I also want to build an additional shelf in the basement to hold craft supplies and sewing materials, which should spark some creativity.

That’s great! So interesting and well illustrated. I have never tried felting unless you count the socks that came out of the dryer after I accidently washed my beautiful hand knitten woolen socks made by my friend Martie. I had no idea you have this love of woolen clothing.
