Here are a couple of items I’ve been enjoying this week…
The first is an embroidered vintage postcard I bought at the annual Garage Galleries art fair in Forest Park. I was shopping for gifts and found a few but knew I wanted this piece for myself. It is mounted on a wood frame with photo corners which I really like.
I really love the delicate embroidery. It is a hobby I’ve long wanted to take up again, and I even have a stash of embroidery floss waiting for me. You can see the work better at an angle.
Because she used photo corners I was able to carefully lift out the postcard and read the message on the back, about Cousin Babe’s trip to Benton Harbor.
I haven’t decided just where I’ll hang this yet but it seems to go with the things in the corner of my bedroom.
The other item I’ve been revisiting is my grandma’s scrapbook, which I wrote about here: Grandma’s Scrapbook
I originally uploaded some cropped photos to Flickr, and my favorite one of the Six Giasson Girls to Ancestry. Someone must have downloaded it and shared it with a Giasson cousin I recently met, and she sent it back to me. The two cousins in the photo along with my grandma and her sisters were this woman’s aunts.
I looked in my archives to find if I had any other pictures from that day. I did, and I realized how much more I like the scans of the images that include the photo corners and my grandma’s writing on the margins.
